I'm not a fan of musicals...
As a matter of fact, I've generally avoided them at all cost.
It's ironic, then, that one of my top 5 movies is The Greatest Showman, a musical documenting the story (however loosely) of the great entrepreneur, Phineas Barnum.
There's a line in one of the songs in the movie that I think about often...
"Another round of bullets hits my skin. Well fire away cause today I won't let the shame sink in."
It's a memorable line because it relays 2 truths about life:
#1) People will always and gladly be there to shame you along your way to success, usually for the purposes of pulling you back down to their level, and...
#2) You always have a choice in how you respond to that shame.
ACTION:
When you hear feedback from others about what you're trying to do or who you're trying to become, never take it personally.
Most people resent the fact that they're not willing to put the effort in to do what you're doing and would rather try and put you back in your place (as they see it) than do the work.
So, in those moments, remember to "keep calm and carry on"...cause it's only a matter of time when you get the last laugh.
Until next time, here's to your 1% growth every day...
