One of the most important conectps to understand about human nature is our hierarchy of needs. Abraham Malsow laid out 8 layers of needs, so known as Maslow’s Hierarchy, that dictate our lives.

The reason this concept is so important is because of its use to manipulate. Manipulation, of course, can be different things. You can be manipulated to buy a product. You can be manipulated to believe an idea. And you can be manipulated to fall in love with someone. Whether or not the “manipulation” is “good” or “bad” is up to you. But, when people are trying to manipulate your choices and decisions, what they’re truly hinting at are needs, or Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs.

By understanding the hierarchy you can start to see how people are manipulating you and then start to make different (and, hopefully, better) decisions.
