Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of...

Happiness means different things to different people...

To one person, happiness means detaching from society and living off the land...

To another person, happiness means having a collection of exotic cars and a house the size of a castle...

Although these two examples are extreme dichotomies, they serve the point perfectly...that happiness is not a defined idea.

Happiness was not defined in America's Declaration of Independence nearly 250 years ago and, as far as I know, there are no amendments to the constitution that define it for us today.

And yet, we regularly judge and gossip about those people whose happiness definition is different than ours (or, more accurately, who have actually achieved the happiness they're after)...

We call the person living off the land a bum who doesn't contribute to society and we call the person living in a castle selfish because they have so much money.

Ironically, the bum and Mr. Selfish are busy in the pursuit of happiness, while everyone else is busy watching and complaining that they can't have happiness themselves.

Maybe it's because you're too busy watching and not busy enough doing.

ACTION:

There's no point in wasting time judging yourself against others achievements...or judging others achievements, in general. Their definition of happiness us just different than yours. Turn your attention to declaring your own Independence from society's grasp.

Until next time, Happy 4th of July...
