We're in the middle of what Michael Easter would call a Comfort Crisis...
As a matter of fact, the crisis has been growing steadily since the end of WWII...
And it's not the first time a society has been caught in the throws of such a crisis either.
The citizens of Rome, right before the fall of the western part of its empire (which, essentially, was the downfall of the Rome itself) were living a very cushy life, at least to their standards...
That cushiness led to complacency, which eventually brought upon the downfall of their country.
Today, we're living out the same scenario...
Our cushy life has led us to complacency, which is shown clearly through two statistics:
#1) Obesity is at its highest rate ever and growing rapidly. In 2020, obesity was at 42% of the population...no doubt it's surpassed 50% at this point.
#2) In 1950, over 70% of America's GDP was made up by small business. Today that number is below 40%.
Both of these statistics show that we don't want to work hard to get results...we just want to be given everything.
ACTION:
Self-starters are much rarer today than they were 50 years ago. Which is exciting, because, that means, if you can train yourself to be motivated and do what's necessary, there's no much competition out there to fight against.
Push yourself to start. And then, once you're up and running, just keep showing up.
That's the magic.
Until next time, here's to your 1% growth every day...
