One of the societal beliefs about willpower is that you either have it or you don't. Either you're born with a level of willpower to be able to say "NO" when you need to say no, or say "YES" when you need to say yes, or you're not.
But willpower, like many other traits, is not inherently ingrained. It's developed into our personality. It's built into you over time through external and internal reinforcement.
And this is what society misses...that your belief about willpower is really your identity about your level willpower. If you believe that willpower is an inherent trait, and that you're the type of person with low willpower, you're thoughts and behaviors follow suit.
It's not until you start to shift your identity and become a different person that willpower becomes a secondary issue instead of a primary issue.
ACTION:
The next time you find yourself giving into temptation because of your "lack of willpower", ask yourself if giving in supports the person you're trying to become...then act accordingly.
